Q: Why do portable cylinders need to be re-certified?
A: Re-certifying your propane cylinder is a simple test that we perform to make sure your portable tank conforms to Department of Transportation safety standards. All portable propane tanks must be re-certified for use if:
- It has been 12 years or more since the tank was manufactured.
- It has been 5 years since the tank was last certified.
- The tank has damage (dents, broken collar, etc.)
Depending on the age of the tank, the re-certification may include upgrading it with a new valve called an overfill prevention device. As the name implies, this valve is a protective device that prevents a propane cylinder from being overfilled.
The manufacturer date and last date of re-certification can be found on your cylinder. If you have any questions, please give us a call.

Some of our customers have been expanding their use of propane by adding new appliances. It’s a smart move. Propane has a lot to offer; not only can you use it to heat your home, you can also use it for cooking (inside or out), to dry your clothes, to fuel your fireplace, to heat your pool and patio, to power your generator and much more.
If you plan on adding more propane appliances to your home, please call us to ensure that your new equipment is installed properly. And if you’re interested in changing your existing natural gas appliances to propane, we have converter kits that will help us do this for you quickly and safely.

- Use your grill only in well-ventilated areas — never inside a garage or on a covered patio. Your grill should also be placed away from any low-hanging tree branches.
- Make sure the grill is clean, in order to prevent flare-ups. Also, check hoses for kinks or any deterioration.
- Keep the cover open until you are sure the grill is lit — even if you have an electronic ignition.
- When you’re finished, make sure to turn off the burner control and close the
cylinder valve. - Propane cylinders should always be kept in an upright (vertical) position when
stored or transported. - When refilling or replacing your tank, transport it in a well-ventilated or air-
conditioned area of your vehicle — not the trunk — and bring it home immediately. - When taking your tank to be refilled, check for dents, rust or leaks.
- Always store propane cylinders outdoors — not in a garage or shed.

Here are some steps to take to make sure you enjoy propane without any problems.
- Make sure all of your propane appliances are properly vented.
- Know where your gas lines are.
- If you paint your tank, use only white or a bright color; it will deflect heat.
- Do not under any circumstances try to modify or repair valves, regulators, connectors, controls, or other appliance or cylinder/tank parts. An improperly connected
tank or appliance can cause a gas leak. If you want to move your tank, leave that to us. - Know the smell of propane. It’s like rotten eggs, similar to the odor of skunk spray.

- Our certified technicians are highly qualified to service your appliances. They will check your tank, lines and valves and ensure that your propane appliances are well vented and functioning properly. And they’ll supply you with thorough safety information, including what to do in the event of a gas leak.
- Our propane delivery drivers have been specially trained to deliver your propane safely and efficiently.
- We conduct employee background checks and drug testing.
- You can also trust our courteous expert technicians and installers to treat your home as if it were their own.
- We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so if you need to report a problem we will respond immediately.
- We are fully licensed, bonded and insured.
