When we think of propane, we often think of using the gas for things such as grilling and heat. However, commercial propane is also commonly used on farmland. In fact, almost 80% of American farms use propane in various ways.

Propane is a versatile fuel that is efficient, a smart choice financially and typically helps appliances and machinery last longer, all of which makes it a great gas for commercial planting and seeding. Additionally, it can help keep your plants, land and animals healthy and thriving all year long.

Ways To Use Propane In Agriculture Operations

Thanks to its versatility, there are numerous ways to use propane on a farm:

• Cooking: When it comes to cooking, propane can be used in all sorts of ways, including grilling, drying out produce and roasting.
• Drying out crops: If you’re looking for a way to dry your farm’s crops, propane is a solid option that will help increase your crop supply while decreasing drying cost expenses.
• Heating: In addition to making sure any animals on a farm are fed, they also have to live in properly heated areas. Propane heaters are a way to ensure any and all livestock are warm all winter long. In the event that you find your farm suddenly without heat due to a power outage, propane can also be used to run generators, which helps to ensure the safety of all animals. When compared to generators powered by diesel, propane generators are less expensive and don’t need as much maintenance.
• Forklifts: There’s a lot that needs to be moved around a farm including hay, food for livestock and equipment. These items often get transported by propane-powered forklifts, which can run in both wet and dry conditions (some electric forklifts are unable to do this), produce less toxins and have a longer lifespan than forklifts powered by gas.
• Heating water: It’s an absolute necessity for a farm to have warm water for cleaning and disinfecting in order to function properly. This is where propane water heaters come in, which you can count on for all your warm water needs.
• Weeding: When you need help controlling unwanted weeds, turn to torching with propane – a technique that is non-toxic and even healthy for soil.
• Irrigation engines: There are plenty of irrigation engines that are powered by gas. However, propane powered irrigation engines cost less to set up and tend to last longer between refills thanks to the fact that they can store large amounts of fuel.
