Avoid these common mistakes

Are you in the market for a new heating system for your northern California home? If your old system is requiring a lot of repairs or can’t achieve a sufficient level of efficiency, you should be in the market for a new heating system. Ideally, you don’t want to wait for the repair bills to start piling up or for your unit’s efficiency to falter. Better to replace it because you want to than because you have to.

Once you’ve begun your search for a new heating system, there are some common mistakes to be aware of so you can avoid them.

Here are some of the common mistakes you want to avoid when buying a new heating system:

• Choosing the wrong size: There is a Goldilocks approach to picking your heating system. Bigger isn’t always better, and smaller isn’t always cheaper. A unit that’s too big will use more power (and cost more to run) without providing better or faster warmth. Conversely, a unit that’s too small will have to work harder, causing it to degrade faster and be less efficient.
• Being efficiency ignorant: It’s extremely important that you consider the efficiency of each unit you may purchase. Efficiency is one of the greatest advantages you’ll experience in upgrading to a more modern system. The US Department of Energy suggests purchasing the highest-efficiency unit you can afford. The more efficient your system, the more comfort you’ll get for each dollar you spend on fuel.
• Buying the same make and model: Your heating system is not like your favorite pair of jeans. Don’t just replace it, upgrade it. Modern models are more capable and provide superior efficiency that you’ll see reflected in your energy bills.
• Skipping the maintenance: Never neglect to get regular maintenance for your heating system. A well-maintained system will last longer and run more efficiently.
