Here are some good to know safety facts about the gas

There is a lot that goes into being a homeowner or business owner and that includes thinking about whether or not the appliances and machinery you have in your home or business location are safe.

These days, it is quite common for homeowners and business owners to use propane gas as a source of power and fuel. That is, in part, because propane is incredibly versatile, convenient, cost effective and efficient. Obviously, those are all great benefits. But the benefits of propane don’t stop there.

Propane is also considered to be an extremely safe alternative fuel. In fact, it is thought to be one of the safest sources of energy out there. This means that propane gas appliances are also considered safe.

Reasons Why Propane Is Safe

Here are a few facts about propane and propane gas appliances that can give you an idea of just how safe the fuel is:

• Some propane appliances run via a propane tank and others, such as grill, run via a cylinder. All propane tanks and cylinders have a pressure relief valve that is able to open in case any excessive internal pressure, which can potentially be dangerous, needs to be released.
• There are strict federal DOT, OSHA and EPA compliance codes in addition to local and state fire and safety laws that the propane industry as a whole needs to abide by. Certain states even require professionals who work with propane to take part in a Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) to further their understanding of the laws and codes for using propane.
• Propane tanks are 20 times more puncture resistant than tanks filled with ethanol, methanol or standard gasoline.
• Out of all the alternative fuels, propane has the lowest flammability range.
• Propane gas is non-toxic, which means that it is not harmful to water, soil, plant life or other living organisms in the event of a leak or spill.
• While propane gas leaks are possible, they are easy to notice and identify since they smell like rotten eggs. This strong smell can be thought of a signal for anyone near the potential leak to evacuate the area.

Propane Gas Stoves

You may have read and heard some news regarding concerns about the safety of gas stoves. Some research had been conducted that suggested that the appliances were linked to indoor air pollution hazards that were harmful to one’s health and to the environment. As a result of this news, some states starting banning the use of gas stoves entirely.

However, there is a difference between natural gas stoves and propane gas stoves, which the above-mentioned research did not take into account.

It is true that natural gas stoves leak methane gas during use and even when they are off. But this is not true for propane gas stoves. In fact, propane is considered a green, clean, environmentally gas with a low carbon content and zero methane gas. Plus, it is impossible to cook on any type of stove without producing particulate matter of some kind.
